The 2009 UK RIMMER REUNION - Sunday 11th October 2009
|
The fifth annual Rimmer Reunion was held at the usual venue of the Fleetwood Hesketh Sports and Social, Fylde Road, Marshside, and was well attended by members and guests alike. As always, the atmosphere was very relaxed, some people staying for the whole day, while others came and went at their leisure. There was the usual opportunity for 'Rimmerising', accessing research materials, and browsing the library of local history books, while our friends from the North Meols Society offered a number of interesting publications for sale at their stand. The Reunion also gives the committee members the opportunity to hold the annual general meeting of the RFHS. All committee members were re-elected to their current roles, and reports were made by the Chairman, Treasurer, Membership Secretary. Having been let down at the eleventh hour by our planned speaker, Chairman Gladys bravely stepped into the breach, like the trooper she is, and gave a fascinating presentation on the origins of the Rimmer name. The icing on the cake of the fifth Rimmer Reunion had to be an appearance by our president Simon Rimmer. Having travelled far, and taken time out of his busy schedule to be at the Reunion, it became clear to everyone just what a genuinely nice guy he is. Simon took the time to speak with virtually everyone present, and posed for numerous photos with good humour and humility. Thanks, Simon! Once again the Reunion was a great success, and has only made the committee more enthusiastic about arranging 2010's event. The committee would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions as to what we might include in the schedule for the 2010 Reunion to make it even better. |
