Constitution of The Rimmer Family History Society

The name of the society will be The Rimmer Family History Society

The Aims of the Society are to gather, collate and make available information regarding the surname Rimmer and to create a library to contain this information. The contents of the library are to be freely available to members within the United Kingdom; overseas members may (where practicable) purchase copies of material. The Society will also offer assistance to its members worldwide with their research into Rimmer family history.

Affiliation: The Society shall seek to become a member of the Federation of Family History Societies (Registered Charity No.1038721) and shall have the power to guarantee its debts in the event of its insolvency up to the sum of £1. The Society may also affiliate with other charitable organisations whose objects are deemed compatible and mutually supportive.

The Executive Committee shall consist of the following officers: Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. Other officers (e.g. Membership Secretary, Website Co-ordinator, Librarian, Research Assistant) may be co-opted onto the Committee.

For a committee to make any financial decision there must be at least four officers, of which at least two must be Executive Officers.

Sub-committees may be formed, as and when required, with the agreement of the Executive.

Membership of the Society will be by subscription, which will be based on the following: Individual, Household (more than one adult at the same address) and Overseas. Honorary membership of the Society can be bestowed by the Committee with the approval of the Annual General Meeting. The subscriptions charged to be agreed by the Executive Committee and ratified by members at the Annual General Meeting.

The Annual General Meeting of the Society will be held each year at the Rimmer Reunion. Nomination forms for the election of officers to be sent out with notification of the Annual General Meeting at least 28 days before the meeting takes place; nominations for prospective officers must be received by the Secretary at least 14 days before the Annual General Meeting of the Society takes place. Should there be more than one nominee for a position then voting will take place at the Annual General Meeting. Only fully paid up members may be nominated and vote.

The Rimmer Reunion will be held each year on a date to be agreed by the Executive Committee and members at the Rimmer Reunion to ratify this decision each year for the following year.

The Society will produce a magazine at least 3 times each year; all members will receive a copy of the magazine; household subscribers will receive one copy per address.

Should the Society cease to operate all, and any, funds in the account will be distributed to an organisation or organisations who hold the same aims - to be decided by the outgoing Committee.
