CHAIRMAN - Gladys Rimmer Armstrong

Gladys Rimmer ArmstrongGladys Rimmer Armstrong was already an owner of a bus pass, a BA (Hons) in Modern European Studies (which, incidentally she received three weeks after she got her bus pass) and the holder of a multitude of reader's tickets for a variety of research establishments.

Gladys began researching family history about fifteen years ago when her husband, Alan's uncle visited them on his way to an Armstrong Clan Gathering; he began talking about the Armstrong history and before she knew it, Alan and Gladys were off on a visit to Penrith to delve a little deeper and look in on the historic family homes.

After finishing off the Armstrong tree Gladys then decided to attempt to start a Rimmer 'tree' from scratch and discovered the delights and the despair that can encompass family history research.

Gladys is one of the few people who are 100% Rimmer; her mother was born Isabella Rimmer and she married Herbert Rimmer, her sister (Mary) married Norman Peter Rimmer, her sister Isabel Rimmer triplicates the phenomenon by marrying Ronald Rimmer; Gladys's first mother-in-law was born Edith Rimmer and her maternal grandmother, Mary Alice Howard was the daughter of Henry Howard and Isabella Rimmer!

The first Rimmer Reunion was a real milestone in Gladys's life and she is delighted to be the Founder Chair of The Rimmer Family History Society. She is especially proud of her birth surname and will continue to search for its origins.

Family History Research has become a real passion for Gladys and she loves researching not just her own family but searching on behalf of Rimmers worldwide; especially those who join The Rimmer Family History Society. Gladys major project is to finish a Rimmer database - which well and truly progressing nicely and she would also like to find out more about the first Rimmer who was to settle in North America?
